'Constantine' TV Series Fails To Find New Home After It Got Cancelled; Showrunner Confirms Its End

Despite the efforts of netizens, the "Constantine" TV series failed to find a second home after it was cancelled by NBC.

Showrunner Daniel Cerone said last month that Warner Bros TV was shopping "Constantine" around for its second season after its cancellation.

But in a Twitter post, Cerone assumed the bearer of bad news.

"I promised I'd share news when I had it -- sadly, that news is not good," he wrote. "The cast and writers of Constantine are being released from their contracts. The studio tried to find a new home for the show, for which we're forever grateful, but those efforts didn't pan out. I'm sorry, I wasn't provided any information on the attempts to sell the show elsewhere. All I can report is that the show is over."

"Constantine" has developed a cult following among Hellblazer comics fans, but the numbers apparently are not enough to sway the networks to pick up the tv series after got cancelled.

A petition was posted on a website seeking to get the mass support for the network to renew "Constantine" for a second season.

"NBC has not ordered a full season for Constantine despite it's above average initial ratings and increasing quality and fanbase," the petition said. "The show is doing well for it's circumstances: it has one of the worst time slots imaginable, 10 pm on Friday nights."

However, it only managed to secure a shade under 35,000 supporters. A similar petition on Change.org only amassed 10,000 signatures.

During the Television Critics Association last January, NBC president Jennifer Salke explained the reason why "Constantine" TV series got cancelled and why the numbers are not where they are.

"We wish the show had done better live," she told IGN. " It has a big viewership after [it airs] in all kinds of ways and it has a younger audience, but the live number is challenging. It hasn't come out in the way we wanted it to, but we love the show. I think it's fair to say we're still talking about it."
