Ellen Pompeo's Reunion With Katherine Heigl in 'Grey's Anatomy' Unlikely? Actress Playing Meredith Grey Goes Matchy With Husband In Italy

Ellen Pompeo's reunion with Katherine Heigl in "Grey's Anatomy" will remain as mere speculations as the "State of Affairs" lead star has stated as a matter of fact that she is not coming back to the medical drama series. Meanwhile, the actress who plays Dr. Meredith Grey spent some down time with her family.

Sitting with Entertainment Tonight, per Us Weekly, Katherine Heigl clarified the rumors saying there is no truth to the claims she will reprise her role as Dr. Izzie Stevens.

"There's not. I'm sorry," Katherine Heigl said.

When asked if she would be back in "Grey's Anatomy" in the future, Katherine Heigl replied with a laugh, "I think that's -- I don't know how to answer that."

While Izzie's return would be an interesting story arc, another "Grey's Anatomy" plot that fans are eagerly awaiting is how Ellen Pompeo's character would move forward after the death of Dr. Derek Shepherd, a character played by Patrick Dempsey.

Some reports have speculated that Ellen Pompeo's exit in the show is imminent as it is her contract year and "Grey's Anatomy" had already built up her struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

"ABC president Paul Lee announced Tuesday (May 12) that Season 12 is "absolutely not" the last season of 'Grey's Anatomy.' That's great for the show," Zap2it said. "However, it is a contract year for many of the central cast members -- including Ellen Pompeo. So while it might not be the last season for 'Grey's,' it could very well be the last for Meredith if Pompeo decides not to sign up for additional seasons."

The site added, "Dedicating an entire season to Meredith struggling with the diagnosis would be a great way to send Pompeo off the show. It's a dynamic arc for an actor to pull off and it would give Meredith a powerful storyline outside of losing Derek."

Meanwhile, Ellen Pompeo seems not bothered by all the speculations surrounding her character in "Grey's Anatomy" as she went all matchy with husband Chris Ivery while they stroll the streets of Italy.
