Charlize Theron, Sean Penn Wedding Off! 'Prometheus' Actress' Independence Causes Split

Charlize Theron has been pretty clear about her views against holding a wedding and for a time, it looked like Sean Penn was the man to tame her. But the "Prometheus" actress' independent streak proved too much to handle.

At least that's how Life & Style magazine explained the decision by Charlize Theron to call off the engagement with Sean Penn.

The source alleged, "Charlize really loved Sean and thought he was going to be the man that she married. But, it was all moving a little too fast. Sean was too controlling. Charlize is very self-sufficient and doesn't rely on men for anything, and Sean really resented that."

Radar Online seemed to have confirmed the report as it said that their engagement run into some major road bump while filming "The Last Face," which Sean Penn directs and Charlize Theron stars.

"Working together on the project definitely took a toll on the relationship," the source said. "Everyone knows how intense Sean is, and there is no exception on movie sets. Charlize felt he was overly critical of her at times. Separating work and personal became hard, and the lines were definitely blurred."

There's also the claim that Sean Penn was an unapologetic flirt.

"Things just moved very fast after they became engaged, but Sean moved out of Charlize's house three weeks ago," the report claimed.

However, not all is lost for Charlize Theron and Sean Penn's engagement even after they split as the actor is "eager to get back in Charlize's good graces, and isn't ready to call it quits on the relationship. There is a lot of love there, and Sean has told Charlize he is willing to work on his issues."

Charlize Theron is also reportedly not giving up on Sean Penn either even after their split as the report claimed, "Charlize is taking a wait and see approach with Sean....She has to do what is best for son, Jackson."
