Ben Affleck Honors Derek Jeter At 2015 ESPY Awards; Jennifer Garner's Ex-Husband Still Wears Wedding Ring
Ben Affleck honored Derek Jeter at the 2015 ESPY Awards. According to a report from E!Online, Jennifer Garner's ex-husband still wore his wedding ring while at the star-studded event.
The appearance of Ben Affleck to present Derek Jeter with the ESPN Icon Awards was previously unannounced. As a result, viewers and attendees were surprised to see the "Batman v Superman" actor at the 23rd Annual ESPY Awards to recognize the New York Yankees star.
"Hi, I'm Ben Affleck, I'm from Boston," he said with a smile, referencing to the long running feud between Boston Red Sox and Derek Jeter's team.
"If you're from Boston you always wanted to hate our next honoree. There was something about him that made the boos ring a little hollow."
"Maybe it was his inimitable class.Maybe it was that he won with dignity and lost with grace. Maybe it was simply that we knew, no matter what, he was a winner, regardless," he said.
Ben Affleck then humbly honored Derek Jeter in spite of being a Red Sox fanatic.
"Boston sports fans can be many things, but we know baseball, and we respect those who play the game the way it was meant to be played," he pointed out.
"He broke my heart 100 times... if not more. And he broke it again when he retired because he was absolutely one of the very best to ever play the game of baseball."
"So to you, Derek Jeter, I tip my hat, and I thank you for every last moment of your incredible career. You made the game better for everyone," Ben Affleck concluded before Derek Jeter went up the stage to accept his award. The baseball star was with his girlfriend, Hannah Davis.
Ben Affleck's appearance at the 2015 ESPY Awards to honor Derek Jeter also created buzz since he still wore his wedding ring at the event.
According to a report from People, the Oscar-winning actor-director and his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, are still wearing their wedding bands to help their kids get through their divorce.
The former couple share three children: Nine-year-old Violet, six-year-old Seraphina and three-year-old Samuel.
"[The kids] are a big part of why they're still wearing [the rings]," an insider shared. "They just want them to be okay."
