'Space Jam 2' In Development? LeBron James Confirmed To Star In Movie?

Cleveland Cavalier's LeBron James will reportedly be stepping out of the hardcourt and dunking into the movie industry with "Space Jam 2."

In a report on the Sydney Morning Herald, it was mentioned that James' entertainment company just got a deal with Warner Bros. The report also mentioned that US journalist Alex Weprin revealed that last month Warner Bros. filed for new trademarks on "Space Jam" prompting rumors that a sequel may be in the works with James headlining.

Reports that a sequel to the basketball movie with James possibly starring was underway has been circulating since last year and James' new deal with Warner Bros. has refueled the speculations. But some Twitter users were purportedly not liking the idea.  According to a report on E! Online, some Twitter users think James headlining the rumored sequel will end in disaster. Others, meanwhile, wanted someone else to lead the possible movie.

Warner Bros. has decline to comment on the rumors as told by ESPN but they did express their excitement to work with the basketball player's entertainment company.

"LeBron James has one of the most powerful, well-known brands in the world, and we are excited to be in business with him and his partner, Maverick Carter, and SpringHill Entertainment," Warner Bros. President and CEO Kevin Tsujihara explained in a statement.

"The combination of LeBron's global media presence and Warner Bros.' unmatched production and distribution expertise is a big win for fans everywhere," he added.

"Connecting with my fans and telling meaningful stories have always been my passion," James said in a statement too as cited by the source above.

"I've always loved movies, which makes Warner Bros. the ultimate partner to help us continue to push the envelope," he further said.

James did not address the "Space Jam 2" rumors as well.

But in an interview with back in 2014, the Cleveland Cavalier player said he was open to the idea of doing "Space Jam."

"Like I said, I've always loved 'Space Jam 1,'" he said as quoted by CBS Sports. "It was one of my favorite movies growing up. If I have the opportunity, it'd be great. But that's news to me."

"We'll see what happens," James said then about possibly starring in "Space Jam 2."
