Ed Koch Left $100,000 to Secretary From $850,000 Will

Former New York City Mayor Edward Koch left $100,000 to longtime secretary in his will.

Koch passed away on February 1 and his will filed Monday leaves the majority of his estate to his sister. He left Pat Thaler and her husband $500,000 in cash and all his personal belongings in his Greenwich Village apartment.

Koch's estate is valued at whopping $10.5- $11 million as a result of his successful publishing career, paid speaking gigs and savvy investing, according to his lawyer.

The will, written in 2007 details just of the $850,000 cash distributions which includes his loyal secretary, Mary Garrigan, of nearly four decades. She is the only non-family member named in the 9-page document. Also another $100,000 was left to the LaGuardia and Wagner Educational Fund to create a program bearing his name to promote public and government service.

Some of his political memorabilia and photographs will go to the New York Historical Society.

"Millions will go in taxes, but after that it probably will be Pat's kids who end up with the most," estates attorney Ralph Engel, with Manhattan law firm SNR Denton after reviewing the will.

Koch died last month at 88 of congestive heart failure at New York-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia.
