'Grumpy Cat' Is The Ultimate Star Of SXSW - Internet Fame Brings Real-Life Fame For Tarder Sauce

'Grumpy Cat' was the unexpected star of this year's South By Southwest Fesitval in Austin, Texas. Eager fans waited in line for hours in the pouring rain just to get up close and personal with her and snap a quick photo.

But why? Why would a person wait so long just to see a cat? Well, that is because Grumpy Cat is one of the biggest cats on the Internet.

Grumpy Cat is the latest Internet meme - a cute little cat with a sour face and she always seems to look grumpy.

She has gained thousands of followers on Twitter and fans across all forms of social media have been sharing her picture with snarky comments and one-liners. She has amassed a cult following that only the Internet could provide for a cat.

Bryan and Tabatha Bundesen are the proud owners of Grumpy Cat, whose real name is Tardar Sauce (or Tard, for short). One day Bryan decided to put the grumpy cat on Reddit just for fun.

"She was lying in my lap and she looked extremely grumpy so I decided to put it on Reddit," Bryan told ABC News at the festival. "It went viral and I never expected it."

Soon people were circulating the photo and adding funny text to it. Bryan was inspired to start take it to the next level. He started grumpycats.com and Tard's Twitter account (@ItsTheGrumpyCat) has more than 300,000 followers.

Grumpy Cat never does lose her signature grumpy look, but that's because she has feline dwarfism, but other than that, her owners say she is a completely "healthy and happy cat."

And for Grumpy Cat, Internet fame has not just brought festival-goers, but now a TV deal. The cat will appear in a Friskies commercial soon.

But it is not all glitz and glamour for Grumpy Cat. Bryan says that they are doing things to help other cats. Here in Austin they made a donation to local animal shelter, Austin Pets Alive.

"A lot of people think we are exploiting the cat, we limit her exposure greatly," Bryan said. "She is only here for an hour at a time. Ninety-nine percent of the time she is just a regular cat. She is not front of the camera at all times, she is a normal house cat and we love her."

And judging by the hundreds of people waiting in line to see Grumpy Cat, the rest of the world loves her too.
