Higgs Boson Particle Found In Large Hadron Collider; Spokesman Says “Results Are Magnificent…It’s Clear We’re Dealing With A Higgs Boson”

The Higgs Boson particle has reportedly been found.

The CERN physics research center announced that an elementary particle had been found in the Large Hadron Collider that is most likely the elusive Higgs boson.

However, the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) research teams stopped short of definitively claiming that the Higgs boson had been found, announcing that the three years of collisions most likely produced the Higgs boson.

Measurements of the behavior of the particle "strongly indicate that it is the Higgs boson," according to CERN.

The statement came after a presentation of CMS's latest findings at a physics press conference held in the Italian Alps, where CERN is located. CERN is the European Organization for Nuclear Research that conducts research at the Large Hadron Collider.

Spokesman Joe Incandela said, "The preliminary results with the full set of 2012 data are magnificent, and to me it is clear that we are dealing with a Higgs boson, although we still have a long way to go to know what kind of Higgs boson it is."

The CERN statement claimed that the boson may be a simple Higgs, which would fill a hole in the Standard Model of how the universe works as the elementary particle level, or it could be something more exotic.

Whether or not it is a Higgs boson will be determined by how it interacts with other particles and its quantum properties, according to CERN.

This discovery will help to explain what gives electrons and all matter in the universe size and shape, according to Fox Science.

The Higgs boson was predicted in 1964 to help augment our understanding of the creation of the universe. It is commonly referred to as the 'God particle'.

The particle's existence helps to confirm the theory that objects gain their size and shape when particles interact in an energy field with the Higgs boson, an essential particle. The more they attract, the bigger their mass will be, according to the prevailing theory.

The discovery of the Higgs boson particle would be a strong contender for the Nobel Prize.
