Cat Food Recall: Diamond Pet Food Company Makes Voluntary Recall Of 6 Cat & Kitten Food Varieties

Diamond Pet Food has recalled its dry cat foods distributed in 25 states. The recalled cat food in question may be missing an essential vitamin cats need called thiamine or vitamin B1.

Thiamine is needed for the normal function of a cat's central nervous system. If a cat does not get enough of the vitamin in its food it can experience frightening symptoms. They may include walking wobbly, seizures, falling, walking in circles and ventroflexion (bending toward the floor).

The Diamond Pet Food Company issued a statement saying it was a voluntary recall of their products: Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat Formula, Premium Edge Senior Cat Hairball Management Formula, Premium Edge Kitten Formula, Diamond Naturals Kitten Formula, and 4health All Life Stages Cat Formula.

The statement also said, "At Diamond Pet Foods, we have a process where we continuously test our products, and this process allowed us to find the undesired levels of thiamine in some of our cat formulas. Our food safety protocols are designed to provide safe food on a daily basis."

If a cat owner purchased one of these bags of dry cat food they should stop feeding it to their cats, throw the bag away or ask for a refund. The company conducted Thiamine deficiency tests on its other products and found that only the six in question were missing the vitamin.
