Greg Raymer Arrested In Prostitution Sting: World Series Of Poker Champion Attempted To Solicit A Prostitute, According To North Carolina Police

World Series of Poker Main Event Champion Greg Raymer was arrested Wednesday in a Wake Forest, N.C. prostitution sting.

Raymer, who lives in Raleigh, was busted by undercover cops when he and five other men allegedly responded to an ad to meet a female escort, that was placed by police. The undercover prostitute told the men to meet her at a Wake Forest, N.C. hotel.

Police told the website that they conducted the operation "as a pre-emptive measure to combat the nationwide growing trend of prostitution."

"In this instance, we conducted the operation at a local hotel with its full cooperation," Police Chief Jeffrey Leonard told a local Wake Forest news outlet, without identifying the location of the sting. "We are not aware of this type of criminal activity ever occurring at the hotel. Our officers selected the hotel for the undercover operation at random."

Raymer won $5,000,000 for his World Series SOP victory in the 2004 Main Event. The following year, he earned $304,680 in the tournament.

Nicknamed the "Fossilman," Raymer was known as wearing glasses that covered his eyes, not allowing his opponents to read his eye movements.

According to Raymer's website, he is a married man.

Released on $1,000 secured bond he will reportedly appear in court on April 18:
