Carly Rae Jepsen Quits Concert 'Praying' It will Prompt Change in Boy Scouts Ban [VIDEO]

Carly Rae Jepsen quits concert earlier this month, in protest over Boy Scouts of America national ban on gay Scouts and Scout leaders.

"Call Me Maybe" singer announced she decided to pull out of headlining the Boy Scouts National Jamboree concert in West Virginia in July, admitting that she "didn't feel comfortable" supporting the cause.

Jepsen tells MTV News, "I mean, it was sort of one of those things that I kind of have my opinions about, and everyone's entitled to their own, but it wasn't necessarily something that I felt comfortable backing once I learned more about it."

She added, "And that being said here's hoping they make the right decision and I'm praying that moves like this will help."

This is similar to the official statement she made explaining why she won't be attending this summer's event. She wrote, "As an artist who believes in equality for all people, I will not be participating in the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree this summer. I always have and will continue to support the LGBT community on a global level and stay informed on the ever-changing landscape in the ongoing battle for gay rights in this country and across the globe."

Jepsen wasn't the only star as Train also pulled out of the event after Eagle Scout Derek Nance began a petition to end the ban.

"Train strongly opposes any kind of policy that questions the equality of any American citizen," the band said in a statement.

A spokesperson for the Boy Scouts addressed the cancelations saying, "We appreciate everyone's right to express an opinion and remain focused on delivering a great Jamboree program for our Scouts."
