Brawl on Train Leads to Ejection of 16 Passengers in New Jersey

A massive brawl inside one of the cars on a New Jersey Transit train forced it to make an unscheduled stop Saturday afternoon.

The cause of the brawl remains unclear as it broke out shortly, about 10 minutes, after the train had departed from Secaucus on a northbound Bergen/Port Jervis line train. The train was unscheduled stop in East Rutherford as official kicked 16 people off the train.

Two of the passengers received summons for disorderly conduct, one minor injury and train was back on track about 20 minutes after the incident said Transit spokesman John Durso Jr. according to New Jersey Star-Ledger.

The exact cause of the brawl on the train has not been determined and is still unclear if any of the passengers involved had been drinking.

No other New Jersey Transit trains were affected by the incident. New Jersey Transit officials issued a moratorium on Saturday for passengers carrying alcoholic beverages, amid St. Patrick's Day celebrations and parades.

"Whether you are gathering with friends at the local pub or attending a parade, if alcohol is part of the festivities, make sure you designate a sober driver to get you home safely," said acting director Gary Poedubicky. "You'll not only be ensuring your safety, but the safety of everyone else who is sharing the road with you."
