University Of Central Florida Campus Is Closed As Police Investigate Mysterious Suicide And Explosive Discovery [VIDEO]

The University of Central Florida campus was closed on Monday morning after police discovered weapons and explosives while investigating a mysterious suicide in a dorm room.

Early Monday morning authorities responded to an emergency call from the campus reporting "a man with a gun," according to University of Central Florida campus officials.

"When police arrived, they found a victim who died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound," a university press release stated.

The Orlando college then evacuated the dorm building, Tower 1, and closed off the parking lot.

Shortly afterward, UCF officials "closed the main campus for classes and normal operations until noon." Students and employees were advised not to come onto campus, with only essential staff members required to come and assist the police investigation. Classes on the main campus were also canceled.

"The safety of our students in Tower 1 and our entire campus community is our top priority," Police Chief Richard Beary said regarding the decision to close the Florida campus.

University spokesman Grant Heston explained to Reuters that the man who killed himself was discovered in one of the Tower 1 dorm suites. Also in the room, police found an assault weapon, a handgun, and some self-made explosive devices.

However, a university spokesman, Grant Heston, assured that there is no immediate danger, but the campus is under watch as a precaution while authorities complete their investigation.

"It was clear at that point that there was no imminent threat from a live shooter, which is the first thing you worry about," he said.

Roughly 500 students from the dorm were evacuated and were sent to another building for counseling and food.

The university has not yet released any more information regarding the details and the dead man's identity is still unknown.
