SimCity Giving Away Free Copies Of Game To Gamers: March 22 Is The Deadline To Register!

SimCity copies are going to be given away for free after technical issues during the launch of its latest installment in March.

"Our SimCity Mayors (gamers) are incredibly important to the team at Maxis," Maxis, the developer of the company wrote in a blog Sunday. "We sincerely apologize for the difficulties at launch and hope to make it up to you with a free PC game download from Origin."

The offer lets existing customers and those who register before March 25 to get a free game along with their copy of SimCity as compensation, theregister.com reported. The downloading starts on March 22 and registered owners have until the end of the month to grab their games.

SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition is what is being offered to compensate for the delay and technical problems.

Earlier in March, the game's launch was met with negative reception as a result of widespread technical problems. These issues included network outages, problems with saving progress and difficulty connecting to the game's servers, Wired reported.

As a result, some reviewers were unable to review the game, labeling the launch as a "disaster" and the game as "unplayably broken", urging players to avoid purchasing the game until the issues were resolved.

According to PC Gamer, Sim City is going to be a reboot of the franchise that hasn't had a major installment since Sim City 4 a decade ago. The launch of the Microsoft Windows game was set to be reviewed by gamers, but the launch didn't go according to plan.

The game allows its users to create their own cities with personalized characters.
