Tourist Jumps Out Window of Indian Hotel An Attempt To Escape Sexual Assault

A British tourist jumps out window of hotel room on Tuesday over fears of a sexual attack as the hotel owner tried to force his way into the room by offering her a massage.

The unnamed tourist in her early 30s was not hurt badly, just suffered some leg injuries, police officer Sushant Gaur said.

The police arrested owner, Sachin Cauhan, in connection with the incident at the Hotel Agra Mahal in Agra, home to the Taj Mahal, one of India's cherished tourist attractions, Gaur said. However there has been no charge filed against him.

The woman told the police Chauhan persistently knocked on her door and even used a key to enter her room offering the guest a "free oil massage" as one of the hotel's amenities.

The hotel's owner told police that it was untrue and said he had gone up to wake the woman up after she had asked to be woken up at 4 a.m. local time.

"Our consular team has spoken to this lady and also to the local police," a spokesman for the British High Commission in New Delhi said, adding the high commission, or embassy, was offering her consular assistance.

The incident comes after a group of villagers in Madhya Pradesh gang-raped a Swiss tourist heightening concerns about sexual assaults in India.

The British Foreign Office issued an advisory for British women to use caution when traveling alone to India due to the recent rise in sexual assaults.
