Hospice Murder-Suicide: Elderly Man Kills Wife & Self in Pennsylvania [VIDEO]

A hospice murder-suicide occurred Tuesday afternoon by an elder man in Pennsylvania.

The 86-year-old Elwood Osman killed his ailing wife, Mildred Osman to death in her hospice room at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, in eastern Pennsylvania then killed himself.

"A hospice patient was shot and killed by her elderly husband," said a statement from hospital spokesman Chuck Lewis, without disclosing their identities or the state of the wife's health before she was killed. "The gentleman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound."

The couple's bodies were found by hospital workers and "no other patients or staff were placed in jeopardy," Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin said in a statement.

"Contrary to some rumors, this was not an active shooter situation," he said.

There has been no witness to the shooting, and the man did not give any indication that he was planning the shootings, CBS reported.

The hospital website states patients are admitted to the hospice unit only with a diagnosis of a terminal illness and a life expectancy of six months or less.

"This is a very tragic event and our hearts go out to the family of the deceased and our Lehigh Valley Health Network colleagues who were involved," the hospital said.

"It's a love story," Jim Geiger Senior Vice President of Operations at Lehigh Valley Health Network, told KYW. "The elderly gentleman could not bear to see his wife suffering, and the family, I believe, have observed that he could not envision living without her."
