Sinkhole Swallows Entire Pond in California 'Probably Four To Five Hours This Whole Area To Drain' [VIDEO]

Sinkhole swallows pond in Newcastle California Sunday Morning, near Dutch Ravine, area commonly referred as "Gold County."

Mark Korb woke up and noticed the giant pond in his back yard didn't look the way it did before.

"This looks like the moon," said Korb, as a sinkhole drained the man-made pond on his property.

Korb in the past have drained the pond with a pump, which took him seven days to complete.

It seems the sinkhole emptied the pond faster, "I would guess probably four to five hours this whole area to drain," Korb said, surprised at the speed.

A geology professor at Sierra College Alex Amigo attributed the sinkhole to past mining activity or preexisting fracture rather than groundwater dissolving material.

"There was such a lot of mining activity going on in this area in the past, that we never know when there was a man-made cavity underground," Amigo said.

Korb is now reportedly looking into how he can handle the situation of the sinkhole. He's also doing research of his Newcastle property.
