Reese Witherspoon To Produce, Star In Movie Adaptation Of New Novel By Bestselling Author L. Courtney Sullivan, ‘The Engagements’

Reese Witherspoon is being sought to produce and perhaps star in the movie adaptation of "The Engagements" by Fox 2000.

If Fox succeeds in getting Reese Witherspoon on board with the project, Witherspoon would produce "The Engagements" through her production company, Pacific Standard, along with her producing partner, Bruno Papandrea, according to Variety.

The film will be based on J. Courtney Sullivan's novel titled "The Engagements," set to be published in June. The story follows a diamond engagement ring from the 1930's to the present, connecting five relationships in unexpected ways.

Witherspoon's manager confirmed that Reese Witherspoon is attached to appear in "The Engagements" to The Wrap.

If Witherspoon joins the film's cast, she will play a supporting role and not the lead, according to an individual with knowledge of the production.

However, the source also claimed that Witherspoon's role in the project has not yet been confirmed, contrary to what Witherspoon's representative has announced.

Since starting her production banner, Witherspoon has been particularly interested in producing adaptations of popular books.

She immediately jumped to produce "Gone Girl", a New York Times Bestseller by Gillian Flynn. David Fincher is reportedly directing the adaptation.

In addition to producing films, Witherspoon, an Oscar winner, is soon appearing in a number of movie roles. She will play a supporting role in 'Mud,' a coming-of-age story, and will star in 'Wish List' from 'Bridesmaids' director Paul Fieg.
