FOX Planning An OJ Simpson Movie - Because The Trial Wasn't Enough Of A Media Spectacle

The O.J. Simpson murder case, the most publicized criminal trial in American history, is about to become a TV miniseries according to FOX.

O.J. Simpson was arrested back in 1994 for the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. More than a year later, and after constant news coverage, the verdict came back and America was shocked.

Now, almost two decades later, FOX has decided to make the O.J. Simpson trial into a movie.

American football star and actor Orenthal James "O.J." Simpson was at the center of what has been called the "Trial of the Century." He had hired a very high-profile legal team, led by Johnnie Cochran who was able to convince the jury there existed reasonable doubt Simpson had committed the murders.

The trial was followed by news sources around the clock and literally everything was documented in the news.

The O.J. Simpson trial was already such a media spectacle, it felt like an 8 month long movie already. And it had a disappointing ending! Why would we want to sit through it all again?

Well, FOX seems to have other ideas for the story. The miniseries will be an adaptation of Jeffrey Toobin's best selling book, The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson. It will be written by Golden Globe winners Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski.

Senior VP of event series and multi-platform programming for FOX, Shana Waterman said the O.J. Simpson movie is based on a story that "captivated millions of people worldwide."

She also added that the trial miniseries and an additional project announced called Shogun, are "riveting and emotional, with unique historic backdrops that lend themselves to the high-quality, dramatic event series we're looking to make."

So an O.J. Simpson trial movie is definitely going to happen. The only question now is, will O.J. be playing himself?
