Aurora Shooter Islam: 'Dark Knight' Killer James Holmes Converts 'Now Muslim Who Prays Five Times A Day'

Aurora shooter, James Holmes accused of killing 12 people last July at a midnight premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises" in Colorado, how reportedly converted to Islam.

Holmes is now observing a strict Muslim diet, studying the Quran and praying up to five times a day. He was spotted with a thick beard during his court appearance last month, which a prison source claimed is a symbol of his new-found faith.

The source from the Arapaho County Jail in Colorado said that Holmes converted to justify his crime that took the lives of 12 and wounded an additional 58 people.

"He has brainwashed himself into believing he was on his own personal jihad and that his victims were infidels," the source said.

"None of them condone forms of terrorism or extremism," the source said. "And they don't want their religion to be connected to that awful shooting."

Holmes is charged with 166 counts of murder and attempted murder. The judge entered a not guilty plea on his behalf earlier this month. If convicted, he faces either life in prison or the death penalty.

Although prosecutors didn't state whether they'll pursue the death penalty yet, the decision will be made public on April 1.

Following Holmes' lawyers question about his mental health, he was allegedly held in a psychiatric ward for several days last fall, often in restraints, because he was considered a danger to himself.

The judge set the start of the trial for August 5.
