Shaquille O’Neal Meets Chris Christie in Statehouse in Support of New Jersey Gun Buyback Program [VIDEO/PHOTO]

Shaquille O’Neal paid a visit to New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on Friday.

Shaq visited the governor’s office to show his support for gun buyback program to get guns off the streets in his home state. The two met briefly, and Christie told Daily Record that Shaq “had some good ideas.”

“We’ll do something with him,” the governor said.

Shaq since retiring from basketball has been quite busy involved in improving his home state. As a co-owner of a theater he renovated, expanded in Newark includes an auditorium with a 47-foot-wide screen.

In the past he was involved in law enforcement programs, when Los Angeles Lakers traded him to the Miami Heat in 2004, he became a reserve officer at the Miami Beach police force.

Then when he moved again to join the Phoenix Suns, he joined the Tempe Police Department, again as reserve officer. However it’s not just a title, but he was actually assigned to the department’s Internet Crimes Against Children unit as a volunteer detective.

Now back in New Jersey, his involvement appears to be more as an ambassador, yet it does have Christie excited.

Later in the evening Christie tweeted a photo of the meeting with the 7-foot-1 basketball superstar.

The photo drew a quite a bit of attention as the retired NBA star seems to be hovering over the not-so-short governor. As Shaq was escorted out of the governor’s office a crowd of people waited to snap photos and take videos of the two together.
