$338 Million Ticket: One Grand-Prize Winning Powerball Jackpot Ticket Sold in New Jersey

A single Powerball ticket was the winning ticket for Saturday night's $338 million, it has been sold in New Jersey, lottery officials said earlier Sunday.

The jackpot was the fourth-largest Powerball in history. The winning numbers in the drawing were 17, 29, 31, 52, 53, and 31. A lump sum payout would be $221 million.

New Jersey lottery officials would not say if anyone claiming to hold the ticket had contacted them as of Sunday afternoon. Further information on the ticket would be released through Monday morning's news conference at the lottery's headquarters in Lawrenceville.

The growing jackpot had helped boost tickets sales in recent days said retailers and many people were willing to stand in long lines to get their tickets.

"We are hoping that we sold it here because that would be a blessing for one of our customers in these tough times," said a worker at a Camden area convenience store.

Lottery officials said 13 other tickets matched five numbers but missing the Powerball, which is worth $1 million each. They were sold in New Jersey, Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia.

The new grand prize jackpot has been reset to $40 million or a lump sum cash amount at $35 million for Wednesday's next drawing, according to the Powerball website.

The largest Powerball jackpot ever came in at $587.5 million in November, when a Missouri couple and an Arizona man split the winnings.

"We redesigned the game and with more money going into the game, the jackpot prize pool has doubled so more people are playing because the jackpot is growing higher," Multi-State Lottery Association President Jim Haynes said.

Powerball is played in 44 states and your chances of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number is about 1 in 175 million.
