Calling Charles Manson – Man Arrested Trying To Smuggle Phone Into California Prison

Calling Charles Manson... well almost. A man was arrested on Sunday after allegedly trying to smuggle a cell phone into a California prison for Charles Manson.

Manson, who orchestrated a series of gruesome murders over four decades ago as been serving a life sentence for his crimes. The famous murders have gotten him a very strange and terrifying group of cult followers.

Most recently, one of those followers, Craig Hammond, 63, was arrested for conspiracy, possession of an illegal communication device, and attempting to bring a cell phone into a state penitentiary. The device was a wrist watch telephone. A clever idea, but not clever enough to outsmart the skilled California corrections staff.

Recently the California state legislature made it a crime punishable by up to $5000 in fines for smuggling a cell phone into a prison.

This phone, however, did not make its way into the hands of Manson - it was intercepted by an officer.

But this was not the first attempt, nor will it be the last, of someone trying to smuggle a cellphone in for Manson.

Since 2009, the mass murderer has been caught with two different phones. The first one, it was discovered, had been used to contact 'fans' and followers across the US and Canada. Two years later, correctional officers found Manson with yet another phone.

Manson, the famed cult leader is, according to the Los Angeles Times, often visited by Hammond. Manson also reportedly calls the cell phone smuggler and long time Manson follower, 'Gray Wolf.'

Hammond posted bail and will appear in court next month for the smuggled cellphone.
