Judge Judy's Son Aids Accused Child Rapist: Local Sheriff Accuses DA Adam Levy Of Illegally Influencing Alexandru Hossu Trial [PHOTO]

Judge Judy's son Adam Levy, the district attorney for Putnam County, N.Y., attempted to illegally manipulate the trial of an alleged child rapist Alexandru Hossu, according to a local sheriff.

Hossu, 35, was arrested last week for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl twice in 2010. His court date is scheduled for May 7, according to the AP.

Judge Judy Sheindlin's son hired the alleged child rapist to be his live-in fitness instructor.

The victim, now 15, recently reported the sexual assault.

Sheriff Donald Smith accused Judge Judys son Levy of "ongoing and improper involvement" in the child rape case.

"[District Attorney Levy] is apparently trying to influence and affect the investigation, which could be perceived as an ethical violation of his official duties and perhaps even as an attempt to undermine it," Smith said.

Judge Judys son shot back on Tuesday, calling Sheriff Smith's allegations "unfounded allegations and misstatements."

"My office acted properly in every aspect of the investigation," Levy said.

Judge Judy's son claims the sheriff had incorrectly listed that Hossu currently lived with him.

The sheriff's office responded that Levy did live the accused rapist, but they have not determined exactly when.

DA Levy says he recused himself from the case as soon as he heard about it since, he said, Hossu was a man "who my family had known for years."

Sheriff Smith claims an assistant district attorney had already recused Judge Judy's son before he had a chance to make that decision.

Levy recently put out a statement questioning the sheriff's office competence in handling the case, saying his office was working "to improve the way law enforcement agencies like the Sheriff's Department handled child sexual abuse allegations."

Smith points out that Judge Judy's son continuing to comment on the case is only further proof of an abuse of power.

"In my view, Mr. Levy's comments and actions would seem to suggest that, if he could have his own way, Mr. Hossu would never have been brought to justice for his crime and Mr. Levy's relationship with him would never have been brought to the light of public scrutiny," the sheriff said.

Judge Judy says her son is not on trial.

"The sole focus of this story should be the investigation as to whether a young girl was the victim of a very serious crime," she said Tuesday through spokesman Gary Rosen.
