Facebook Reply Option Update: Users Will Be Able To Reply To Individual Comments In Threads On Pages

Facebook announced a new Reply option that will facilitate commenting on the social network site.

CNN reported that Facebook's new reply option will allow users to directly respond to comments left on pages. Allegedly, Facebook has been testing the new messaging service since November.

CNN noted that users will be able to respond to each comment individually, and not have to post a response to an earlier comment in a thread at the very bottom of the discussion. The individual responses will appear below the corresponding comment, making it much easier to hold coherent conversations on the social networking site.

Facebook's journalism program manager Vdim Lavrusik wrote in an official blog post, "You and your readers will have the ability to reply directly to comments left on your Page content and start conversation threads, which will make it easier for you to interact directly with individual readers and keep relevant conversations connected."

"Also, the most active and engaging conversations among your readers will be surfaced at the top of your posts ensuring that people who visit your Page will see the best conversations," Lavrusik continued.

Facebook will also organize your newsfeed in terms of interaction, so the posts that have been frequently interacted with will be prioritized to the top. Comments of lesser interest will be put at the bottom. This change will be particularly helpful to pages with large amounts of followers, according to CNN.

At the moment, the new comment-reply system is isolated to Facebook brand Pages, not profiles. Users will eventually be able to activate the system through the Page admin panel.

By July 10, Facebook plans to automatically apply the 'reply button' update to any page with more than 10,000 followers.

"At launch, this feature will only be available on desktop and we plan to make it available in the Graph API and mobile in the future," Lavrusik added.
