John Mayer Botox: Singer Receives Injections To Avoid Vocal Chord Surgery

John Mayer admits to injecting Botox and explains the reason, is not to buy a few more years in the youth market.

The singer admits that a painful condition has forced him to get several injections, but prevented him from even speaking for months.

Billboard reported the singer plagued with a serious throat condition since 2011, had used combination of surgery and Botox. Dr. Steven Zeitels injected the drug to paralyze John's vocal cords and allow them to heal. However it was an unpleasant few months.

"I thought I'd just take a pill and it would go away, but the problem got worse and worse, and grew and grew," Mayer said.

Mayer and Dr. Zeitles made a visit to otolaryngology specialist Dr. Gerald Berke at UCLA, "Dr. Berke said, 'I think I can do this without surgery. In Boston, you were given one unit of Botox. I'm going to give you 17 units to really shut down your vocal cords and let them heal. I'm going to do it now-I'll go right through into his neck,'" Dr. Zeitels recalled. "I asked him to leave the room and give us a minute. John and I looked at each other, and we both agreed we had nothing to lose."

Myer had his vocal paralyzed for months at a time, until he had a breakthrough and final healed.

"I was forced to type on my iPad to communicate anything. It wasn't liberating. Is breaking your leg liberating? No. All complexity is gone when you don't have a choice.

"I probably had contiguously three, maybe four months of not saying a word. The endurance was tough for me, but I started a new life."
