Mariah Carey undoubtedly caused some jaws to drop on Tuesday, when she posted a stunning photo of herself on the website Instagram, with no makeup on.

"Love to all the lambily!!! #WWLD," Mariah wrote just hours before celebrating her 43rd birthday.

Mariah has named her fans lambs. There is even a Facebook page called Mariah Carey's LAMBS.

Carey held a fluffy stuffed lamb in her no makeup shot in honor of what she called Worldwide Lamb Day (which happens to coincide with the superstar diva's birthday).

Mariah caused a stir only hours after posing with no makeup on, in a birthday appearance on "American Idol" that was strewn with profanity.

Following Amber Holcomb's performance of the Stevie Wonder song "Lately," which Mariah called a tour de force, Carey stood up and let loose with a string of expletives that had to be bleeped extensively by the Fox censors.

While Carey claims she was "taking it to the lowest common denominator" to draw attention to Holcomb's dynamic performance, it is difficult to know exactly what Mariah was thinking.

Another odd birthday choice for Carey was the decision to carry around a magic wand for the duration  of "American Idol."
