Katherine McPhee Chops Hair, See Her Transformation [PHOTO]

Katherine McPhee chops hair this week, amid cancelation rumors of "Smash," she sheds her signature look of Karen Cartwright, long locks.

The "American Idol" alum arrived in Los Angeles, looking quite different from her small screen persona sporting a blunt cut, chin-length bob.

The 29-year-old is making an appearance on "American Idol" Thursday, performing alongside One Republic.

"I'm excited about today! Get to see all my old Idol family! Been too long," McPhee tweeted. She returned to the show with some curls singing "If I Lose Myself" with One Republic. She seemed comfortable singing alongside Ryan Tedder, who made a guest appearance on "Smash" last year.

"It's sad," McPhee's co-star Debra Messing in "Smash" said in a recent interview with Parade. "I think that everyone involved in 'Smash' has loved the concept and the world that we've been playing in, and we all wish that it performed better than it has. But it's the business of television. It's erratic and it's something you can't control at all. We still don't know what's going to happen, but we're all really proud of it."
