Mystery Elf Door in San Francisco Fascinates Visitors At Golden Gate Park [VIDEO]

A mystery elf door in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park is gaining a lot of attention on the Web.

A tiny wooden door mysteriously appeared at the base of an elm tree gaining excitement from local residents and on the web. The elf door can be found in the park's concourse near the Golden Date Band Shell between the de Young Museum and the California Academy of Sciences.

Just as you can see in the photo on the neighborhood site about San Francisco's Richmond District, many are searching and posting photos of the elf door or a gnome door.

Park visitors are leaving notes, candy, flowers or acorns inside the hole. From the blog post there is a comment that jokes, "It's a very tiny coffee shop. It's already played out."

Another comment suggested, "Looks like a squirrel with a [k]nack for architecture."

Some have also tweeted, "I totally dragged my bf to the park & hunted that door down after seeing it in your blog. Seriously the coolest thing ever!"

Another added, "My daughter left some candy, when we came back 2 hours later it was gone. Fairies!"

"We don't have any plans to do anything but just leave the elf door and continue to take care of Golden Gate Park," Andy Stone of the San Francisco Parks Department told NBC Bay Area.
