Gary Payton Selected To The Naismith Basketball Hall Of Fame: Take A Look At The Hall Of Fame Career Of The Glove And Watch It Too [VIDEO]

Gary Payton announced that he will be elected to be a member of the 2013 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame class.

Nicknamed the glove, Payton made the NBA All-Defensive Team nine times. He was also a nine-time NBA all-star and a nine-time all-NBA team member.

The soon-to-be hall-of-famer confirmed the news that he would be enshrined in the 2013 hall of fame class with NBA.com Friday.

"Thanks for the love everyone....incredible honor, couldnt have done it without my great fans who backed me n motivated me thru-out my career," Payton tweeted Friday.

Payton hoisted the Larry O'Brien trophy in 2006, near the end of his career when he joined a young Dwayne Wade and still dominate Shaquille O'Neal. That was his only championship, but when in his prime, he came close with the Seattle Super Sonics. They met and lost to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in the 1996 NBA finals.

He made another attempt prior to his first and only championship when he and Karl Malone joined Kobe Bryant and Shaq in L.A. but lost in the finals to the Detroit Pistons in 2004.

Born in Oakland, Calif., Payton played 17 years in the NBA with the Sonics, Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat and Boston Celtics.
