Heidi Klum Talks About Rescuing Her Son From Drowning With Ellen DeGeneres, Says “It Happens In A Second” [VIDEO]

Heidi Klum talked about how it felt to save her son and his two nannies from near drowning with Ellen DeGeneres on the April 12th episode of the comedian's talk show.

Supermodel and America's Got Talent judge Heidi Klum talked to the host about her family's Easter Sunday adventure on the beach in Hawaii with her boyfriend Martin Kirsten. On the family's holiday, Heidi Klum's son Henry and two adults supervising the child were nearly drowned in a dangerous riptide.

Klum told Ellen DeGeneres, "We had an awesome holiday until the last day. We had been swimming all week. Everything was beautiful. Beautiful weather and on the last day when my son and three grown ups were in the water and all of the sudden one of those riptides came and took my son and everyone into the water and they couldn't get back out. It all happens so fast."

Dramatic photographs were taken of Klum and Kirsten pulling people out of the water. "It was so scary. I mean it happens in a second," Klum told DeGeneres, snapping her fingers.

Klum said that Henry, her oldest son with ex-husband Seal, fared better in the water than the three adults. Klum said, "To be honest, he is a really good swimmer. He is very strong, and I guess because he is really athletic he knows how to swim so well. [Henry] said, 'Well, you always told me when you're in the water you have to be really calm and you can't stress out and that's what I did.'"

The of Project Runway hostess admitted how lucky she felt that everyone came out of the ordeal safely. "It took four seconds and he was out, but the grown ups, it was really hard for them to get back out. The waves were just all of the sudden taking them deeper into the ocean. It's really wild."

Since that traumatic experience has been put behind her, Heidi Klum can happily celebrate her 40th birthday on June 1. She told Ellen, "My friend Nancy is actually doing a hat party for me, which I thought was really cute, everyone has to show up in a hat. So it's all girlfriends of mine, and everyone has to wear a crazy hat."

Klum said she wasn't sure what kind of hat she planned to wear, but Ellen DeGeneres took care of that dilemma when she gave the former supermodel a lifesaver-themed "Super Mom" hat. You can watch Ellen's interview with Klum below:
