Virginia Community College Shooting Leaves Two Women Hospitalized, But The Suspected Shooter Is In Custody

A suspect is in custody following a shooting at a community college section of a Virginia mall in Christiansburg, Va., which two women were shot Friday.

One of the women shot was airlifted to the hospital and the other was taken by ambulance, Christiansburg city spokeswoman Becky Wilburn told the Associated Press. She reported that they were the only two to suffer gunshot wounds, but their conditions are unknown.

Wilburn also told the AP that emergency officials received a 911 call around 2 p.m. Friday about someone with a gun at the New River Community College satellite location in the mall outside of Blacksburg. The caller reported hearing shots fired.

She also said that authorities do not believe there's any continuing threat to the community at large.

Schools in the Montgomery County area were briefly locked down as a precautionary measure.

No other information about the suspected shooter has been revealed.

After the shooting, the school announced on its Facebook page that its two campuses -- one in Dublin, Virginia, and the other at New River Valley Mall, where the incident occurred -- had been closed.

This is another shooting involved with a school, which is becoming a trend and also adds to the debate of firearm laws and which direction the laws should go.
