Wrigley Field Overhaul Is Set And The Chicago Cubs Fans Will Now Watch A Bigger Screen And Watch The Team In Action With More Night Games

The Chicago Cubs and the city agreed Monday on a $500 million renovation of Wrigley Field.

The stadium has been the home field for the Cubbies since 1916. The Cubs have not won a World Series during the near-100 year stay at the stadium.

Wrigley Field;s overhaul includes an electronic video screen that is nearly three times as large as the one currently atop the center-field bleachers of the 99-year-old ballpark, according to the Associated Press (AP).

"This framework allows the Cubs to restore the Friendly Confines (of Wrigley) and pursue their economic goals, while respecting the rights and quality of life of its neighbors," Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in a statement.

He said it includes no taxpayer funds and will appease to the neighbors of the famous Chicago field.

This overhaul of the stadium will allow the Cubs to go from 30 to 40 night games. The Cubs played more day games than any other team, which has becomes less and less for MLB teams.

Wrigley Field also has a tradition with businesses around the stadium located in the middle of a neighborhood of Lakeview, Illinois.  The businesses allow customers to watch the Cubs games from their rooftops.

"Any construction that interrupts the rooftop views will effectually drive them out of business and be challenged in a court of law," a spokesman for the rooftop owners said in a statement.

The Cubs said the video screen they are proposing to build is 6,000 square feet, and would be built with "minimal impact on rooftops with whom (the) Cubs have an agreement." The current center-field scoreboard is slightly more than 2,000 square feet; the Cubs also have plans to add a left-field sign of 1,000 square feet, according to the AP.

"We are anxious to work with our community as we seek the approvals required to move the project forward," the Ricketts, whom own the Cubs, said in the statement.
