Tire Problems Caused Florida Van Crash, 19 Injured, 1 Dead

On Saturday evening at 7:10pm a Florida van crashed along the Florida turnpike 60 miles outside of Orlando.

The van was only big enough for 15 people but was carrying 20 people plus their luggage. The Florida van that crashed belonged to GSC Community Inc a Miami church group.The church group was on a mission to Orlando.

According to the Washington Post the rubber from one of the tires on the van separated from the wheel. This caused the van to roll over several times and killed one of the passengers.

46-year-old Merlande Chery, a Northern Miami woman was expelled from the van and pronounced dead at the scene.

The 19 other passengers in the car were injured but according to reports are not in life threatening danger. There were adults and children traveling in the van when it crashed. Authorities say the children were not seriously hurt. Three of the Florida van crash victims had to be air lifted to the hospital.

Investigators are looking into the Florida van crash. They are trying to determine which of the passengers were wearing seatbelts and how many times the van rolled over.
