PSY Chose Ga In For “Gentleman” Music Video Because She “Has An Asian Face,” Contacted Brown Eyed Girls Singer On April Fools Day

Ga In talked about how it felt to star in Psy's mega-hit "Gentleman" music video in an interview.

The Brown Eyed Girls member was recently interviewed by SBS 'News 8' about her role as the female lead alongside Psy in his follow-up to "Gangnam Style." Ga In said, "He contacted me [about being in the music video] on April Fool's Day. So at first I thought he was just joking around. I feel so honored because this is a chance for me to be in the spotlight again."

In a phone interview with Yonhap News, Ga In said, "Oppa (older brother) said that he wanted someone with an Asian face that didn't have double eyelids."

Psy's "Gentleman" already has over 70 million views, although it was just released two days ago.

Psy has said of his inspiration for his new song, "My job is to help people laugh and have fun. I put a lot of thought into this. I decided that it would be best to do what I do best by keeping it funny, dirty, undignified."

It's interesting that Psy chose Ga In to appear in his highly anticipated music video, since she isn't part of Psy's music label - YG Entertainment. Many thought that, given HyunA's rise to fame after her appearance in "Gangnam Style", YG CEO, Yang Hyun Suk, would choose one of YG's young artists to be Psy's co-star, giving them a bump in visibility.

However, given Ga In's comments in the interview, Psy's choice makes sense. Ga In has a very distinct style and attitude that suits "Gentleman" perfectly.

It'll be interesting to see how Ga In will use her new role in the spotlight. Hopefully she can use her visibility to re-energize her music career.
