"Leave It To Beaver" Actor Frank Bank, Better Known As 'Lumpy', Died At 71 - One Day After Birthday

Frank Bank who played the bully "Lumpy" on the 50's and 60's sitcom Leave it to Beaver died on Saturday, one day after celebrating his birthday. Frank Bank was 71.

Leave it to Beaver aired from 1957 to 1963. Frank Bank played the bully and side kick to Wally all six years the show ran. Frank Bank even reprised his role as "Lumpy" in the 1983 series The New Leave it to Beaver and the 1983 TV movie, Still Beaver. Frank Bank also had a cameo in the 1997 film Leave it to Beaver.

After the TV series ended, Frank Bank rarely acted, except in the above-mentioned titles. Instead, Frank Bank took on a different profession and became a stock and bond broker. According to People Magazine, Bank would read about stocks and economics in the Wall Street Journal on the set of Leave it to Beaver between takes.

"Everything there was to know about tax-free bonds," Frank Bank told People in a 1998 interview. Bank said that within three years of beginning a career in finance, he was earning a salary of $300,000 with a company in Los Angeles.

There was no cause of death announced for Frank Bank. Leave it to Beaver star Jerry Mathers went on his Facebook page to express his sorrow at the death of Frank Bank. Fans of the classic sitcom also left condolences on Facebook.

Mathers wrote, "I was so sad to hear today of the passing of my dear friend and business associate Frank Bank, who played Lumpy on Leave it to Beaver. He was a character and always kept us laughing. My deepest condolences to Frank's family."

"I met Frank [Bank] several times. He was always warm and friendly. Very sorry to hear of his passing," said James Scott.

"Always loved the show Jerry! Grew up watching you when I was a kid...great memories and wholesome television! Can't find TV like that today. Condolences to you with the passing of Lumpy," said Gregory A. Zahornacky.
