Jada Pinkett Smith Backtracks On Open Marriage: “No, It’s ‘Grown!’”

Jada Pinkett Smith shocked fans earlier this month when she openly divulged that the swirling rumors of an open marriage between the star and hubby Will Smith were at least partly accurate. In an interview with HuffPost Live's Marc Lamont Hill, Pinkett Smith said "I've always told Will, 'You can do whatever you want as long as you can look at yourself in the mirror and be okay...because at the end of the day, Will is his own man. I'm here as his partner, but he is his own man."

Fans took this to mean that Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith were in an open relationship-- which, well, her comments sure appeared to hint at. But in a Facebook post published Sunday, April 14, Pinkett Smith recanted, saying their relationship was "a grown one", and that this did "NOT mean we have an open relationship". She wrote "The statement I made in regard to, 'Will can do whatever he wants' has illuminated the need to discuss the relationship between trust and love and how they co-exist ...

"Here is how I will change my statement...Will and I BOTH can do WHATEVER we want, because we TRUST each other to do so. This does NOT mean we have an open relationship...this means we have a GROWN one."

She also protested over the media brouhaha about the issue, writing "there are far more important things to talk about in regards to what is happening in the world than whether I have an open marriage or not."

Commenters on the Huffington Post called her clarification "semantics" and were suspicious of her "parsing words". "carlton whitfeld" posted "Exactly, when people start "explaining" themselves rather than just give a straight answer it usually means they're hiding something."

The actress, 41, has been married to Smith for 16 years. They have two children.
