Krystle Campbell: Boston Marathon Runner’s Family Told She Was Alive And In Surgery, When Really She Died At the Scene

29-year-old Krystle Campbell was running in the Boston Marathon on Monday with her friend Karen. The pair was on Boylston Street near the finish line when the first bomb exploded.

After the bomb went off, Krystle Campbell and friend Karen were found side by side on the ground. While on the way to the hospital somebody mixed up Krystal and Karen's names.

Campbell's father William was told his daughter had survived the bombing and was in surgery. William was also told his daughter was in danger of losing her leg.

When William arrived at the hospital he went to see his daughter but was shocked to discover the woman he was looking at was not Krystle Campbell. He later learned his daughter was one of the three people killed in the marathon explosion.

Krystle's grandmother Lillian told the media William Campbell was "devastated" when he walked into the hospital room and realized the mistake and that his daughter had died.

The family of Krystle Campbell held a news conference in front of their Medford home Tuesday afternoon trying to express to the rest of the world the devastating loss they and two other families suffered on Monday.

In a video posted by the Boston Globe, Krystle Campbell's mother Patty made an emotion statement saying how much she loved her daughter and that they family couldn't understand how this could happen.

Tearful and barely able to speak, Patty Campbell said about her daughter, "She was a wonderful person. Everybody that knew her loved her. She had a heart of gold. She was always smiling and friendly."

Patty Campbell concluded by saying, "You couldn't ask for a better daughter. We can't believe this has happened."
