‘Man Of Steel’ Trailer Released: Snyder’s Adaptation Of Superman Reveals The ‘S’ Means ‘Hope’ [VIDEO]

A new trailer for Man Of Steel has been released, revealing the film's direction on Kal-El's (a.k.a. Superman's) beginnings on home-planet Krypton, Clark Kent's coming of age on a planet where he doesn't fit in, and Superman's growth into a hero.

Man Of Steel is scheduled for a June 14 release. The latest superhero film is directed by Zack Snyder and based on a script written by Christopher Nolan and David Goyer, who also wrote the Dark Knight trilogy together, breaking box-office records with their modern take on Batman.

The new three-minute trailer gives an in-depth look at the highly anticipated movie. It was released in conjunction with the film's presentation at CinemaCon this week. The trailer shows Superman, played by Henry Cavill, interacting with Lois Lane (Amy Adams),  Krypton's destruction and the appearance of an enraged General Zod.

The trailer begins much like any Superman incarnation begins - with Jor-El (Russell Crowe) and Lara Lor-Van (Ayelet Zurer) placing their son in a capsule so he can escape their doomed planet.

Jor-El tells baby Kal-El, "Goodbye, my son. Our hopes and dreams travel with you." Wife Lara worries, "He'll be an outcast. They'll kill him."

Jor-El answers, "How? He'll be a god to them."

The trailer shows Clark Kent growing up in rural Kansas under the wing of his adoptive father, Jonathan Kent, played by Kevin Costner. "I have to believe that you were sent here for a reason, and even if it takes the rest of your life, you owe it to yourself to find out what that reason is," Kent tells his son.

Lois Lane tracks down Clark Kent, General Zod vows to find him, and Superman starts to fly in the trailer.

As Superman takes flight, Jor-El says in a voice-over, "You will give the people of Earth an ideal to strive towards. They will race behind you. They will stumble, they will fall, but in time they will join you in the sun. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders."

The trailer ends on a conversation between Superman and Lois, when she asks Superman what the "S" on his chest stands for.

"It's not an 'S'. On my world, it means hope," Superman answers.

The teaser pulls at Superman fans' heartstrings, showing seriously emotional moments within the 3-minute teaser. The new Superman incarnation will explore the emotional depths of the DC Comics character more than any movie has before.

Superman will hit theaters on June 14 of this year.
