Baby’s Body Found In Hospital Linens: Stillborn Infant Discovered After Bundle Sent To Laundry Service For Cleaning

The body of a 22-week old stillborn baby boy was found wrapped in hospital linens when the bundle was mistakenly sent out with the hospital's laundry to be cleaned on Tuesday.

Crothhall Laundry is an off site service that handles the linens for Regions Hospital in St. Paul Minnesota. A laundry worker found the body in the hospital linens and immediately called the facility to let them know what had happened.

Chris Boese, the chief nursing officer at Regions Hospital told USA Today, "This was a terrible mistake, and we are deeply sorry. We have processes in place that should have prevented this but did not. We are working to identify the gap in our system and to make sure this does not happen again."

According to USA Today and the St. Paul Pioneer Press the hospital delivers 2,500 babies each year and has 2 stillbirths each month.

The baby that was found in the hospital linens had been wrapped up after delivery and brought down to the hospital morgue. The lifeless bundle was mistakenly taken out with the weekly laundry.

In a press conference, Boese said it was too early to determine if any disciplinary action will be taken against any hospital employees. The hospital is also looking to contact the family that suffered the stillbirth and apologize.

Reports have said that the police are looking into how the body in the hospital linens ended up 40 miles away at the laundry service. They do not suspect foul play.

USA Today reports that the hospital has offered counseling services to the workers of the laundry service that found the body in the hospital linens.
