Third Boston Bombing Victim, Lu Lingzi, Leaves Parents Devastated

The third victim to die in the Boston marathon bombings, Lu Lingli, was a Boston University grad student. Her parents said Lingli, an only child, was the embodiment of all their dreams and are heartbroken that she died.

Lingzi, 23, was studying mathematics and statistics. According to Boston University, she was at the marathon to cheer on runners near the finish line with friends when she was killed.

Lingzi's father described her death as a "dagger in our hearts" in a phone interview with ABC News. They didn't want her name released at first. Later, they authorized Boston University to publically disclose it.

She loved American food like blueberry waffles and Godiva chocolate. Her Weibo account, the Chinese version of Twitter, has her enjoying life at Boston University with her friends.

China's one-child policy, implemented in urban areas starting in 1979 to help prevent overpopulation and bolster the economy, meant that Lingzi family could only have one child. But Lu Lingzi would still be eventually have been caretaker for her parents - the difference is that she was the only one they had, so all of their hopes and energies were channeled into her. In traditional Chinese society, families have many children, and this is still true today in rural areas.

The Lingzi family is from Shengyang, a large city in Northeast China. Lingzi attended the prestigious schools in China on scholarship and the family saved their income so that their daughter could study mathematical finance at Boston University. Lingzi's father is working on obtaining a visa so that he can come to the US to claim his daughter's body.
