KBS Rejects 'Gentleman' MV, Citing 'Public Property Damage'?

The viral music video of Psy's "Gentleman" has been turned down by the KBS review committee and will not be aired on its network.

But the cited reason for their decision is puzzling. Psy damaged a public property in the music video, they stated. The orange plastic cone with a 'no parking' sign, which Psy kicks near the beginning of the music video, is the act of damaging a public property, they announced.

Sexual content and product placement, two major factors that have received some criticism, were not the reasons that led to the committee's decision.

On the other hand, SBS, another major network, found no fault with the music video and passed it, giving it a PG-13 rating.

Many are siding against KBS network, calling its decision a result of extreme intolerance and unreasonable conservatism. Especially, with "Gentleman" picking up a huge amount of momentum across the world, it is unfortunate its mother country is unable to look past a few humorous acts, albeit a tad bit inappropriate.

KBS stated that the music video can be resubmitted for a re-review with the problematic scenes deleted, but Psy's camp is reportedly unwilling to sacrifice the integrity of their product by cutting out parts of its content.

Ironically, KBS recently ran an in-depth coverage of its music show, 'Music Bank', and the impact it has had in promoting the K-Pop wave across the world. Psy just broke the YouTube record for the shortest time to reach 100 million hits. If KBS understands its own role in as a promoter of K-Pop and the current demand of the entire world for Psy's "Gentleman", the decision is simple. Show it. There is no question about it.
