Neil Patrick Harris And David Burka Leaving LA For New York City---Equal CItizens Under The Law In Big Apple

Actor Neil Patrick Harris is uprooting his family from LA to New York City once CBS's "How I Met Your Mother" wraps up the ninth and final season.

The "Doogie Howser, MD." child star and his partner, David Burka, have been raising their 2-year-old twins Gideon and Harper in their gorgeous California mansion and are looking forward to living in a state that recognizes same-sex couples as equal citizens under the law.

"It would be great to move the ring from my right hand to my left, but Prop 8 won't allow us to do that," Harris said of California's ban on same-sex marriage "David and I have been soulmate-y since we first met."

The pair already own "a smaller place in Harlem." Harris joked that they should look into buying "a penthouse or a brownstone on Park Avenue." Harris, 39, and Burtka, 37, hope to trade coasts sooner than later for their children's sake.

The openly gay activists have been together for 10 year are expecting to tie the not in the Big Apple for the wellbeing of their children.

"Our plan is to reroute ourselves and have our kids start to go to school here," Harris told Us. "We're at that age where we need to figure out where our kids are going to be educated. Then we hope that work finds us."

And I'm sure work will find them quite easily. Talented Harris is an actor, singer, director, producer and magician! (He serves as the President of the Board of Directors of Hollywood's Magic Castle).

He has been successful in New York and it only seems natural for him to continue his career here. His NY resume includes several Broadway plays, and hosting New York based shows SNL and The Tony Awards.  He is well liked on this side of the country and his move will be well received.

Harris has been openly gay since November 2006 confirming, "I am happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest and feel most fortunate to be working with wonderful people in the business I love."
