Psy Praised For Honoring Copyright Laws On Latest Choreography

The South Korean President, Park Geun-Hye, has commended international superstar, Psy, for setting a good example.

Psy's newest single "Gentleman" borrows choreography from the Brown Eyed Girls 2009 hit song "Abracadabra," and the singer has paid royalties to the choreographers to use the sexy moves.

President Park says that Psy is setting an example for other citizens (and singers) against the piracy of intellectual property. She stated that the 35-year-old rapper-singer recognizes "the value of other people's creativity."

She used Psy as a backdrop for a conversation about the economy and job market where she says "rampant piracy" is to blame for preventing the creation of new IT jobs and software manufacturing.

In a meeting with policymakers last week, the new president called for a drastic change in the South Korean economic structure. She said the reliance on big manufacturing companies is not sustainable and the country needs to focus on more creative systems.

"One of the reasons our economy is in a difficult situation... is growth without jobs," she said. "New industries to tackle this issue have not been created yet and we need a paradigm shift to overcome such a crisis."

She then said the focus should be on curbing the piracy of cultural products and praised Psy for paying money to the choreographers who developed the 'arrogance dance' for use of their moves for his song "Gentleman."
