Drowned Tourist In Bahamas Body Recovered At Shore In Bahamas: His Three Friends Survive The Rip Current

A drowned tourist in the Bahamas was recovered Saturday.

The unnamed man's body was washed ashore on Eleuthera Saturday night after going missing Friday evening, according to the Associated Press (AP).

The police officials said the man was swimming with three companions when they started struggling to get out of a current. The other three men were able to make it back to shore, while the drowned tourist was dragged out to shore in the Bahamas.

Authorities were able to rescue the body of the U.S. tourist. He was drifted to the shore more than a day after his swim on the island of Eleuthera went wrong.

Superintendent Stephen Dean from the Royal Bahamas Police Force told the AP that the 31-year-old tourist was from Palm Beach, Fla.

Eleuthera is a long, narrow island lying east of the archipelago's capital of Nassau.

Every day, about 10 people die from unintentional drowning. Of these, two are children aged 14 or younger. Drowning ranks fifth among the leading causes of unintentional injury death in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP).

"If you are caught in a rip current, swim parallel to shore. Once free of the current, swim diagonally toward shore," the CDCP stated.
