Psy Nominated For 3 Billboard Music Awards

Billboard has released their nominations for the annual Billboard Music Awards and Psy is included in three categories.

After such a stellar year in 2012, it comes as no surprise that Psy made it into three separate categories for this year's Billboard Music Awards.

Perhaps the most obvious nomination for Psy is for Top Streaming Artist. His record-breaking "Gangnam Style" is the most-watched YouTube video of all time and has surpassed 1.5 billion views since its release last July. Other contenders for that award include Baauer, Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Rihanna - but Psy is a clear frontrunner in the category having been credited with the music industry's paradigm shift in the role played by YouTube.

Korean rapper Psy also appears in the Top Rap Artist category alongside Drake and Minaj as well as Flo Rida and Pitbull. While this may be a more difficult category to win (especially when considering most Psy fans have no idea what he is actually saying when he raps), it goes to show that Billboard, at least, is taking him seriously as a musician.

Psy's third Billboard Music Award nomination is in the Top New Artist category. Fellow nominees Gotye, Carly Rae Jepsen, One Direction, and the Lumineers are also vying for that title at this year's event.

The yearly award ceremony will take place in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand and will be aired live on ABC on May 19.
