Jilted Husband Sues His Bride For Wedding Deposit; Rent; Money From Joint Account

A jilted husband sues his bride after he was just, well, a husband-to-be, not a husband. The suit says the bride should pay back the deposit her jilted husband put down for the wedding and her half of the rent from the apartment the couple shared.

Steven Silverstein, 29, the husband and plaintiff, filed a lawsuit in the Manhattan Supreme Court claiming that the bride, Kendra Platt-Lee, cheated him of their down payment. The wedding was to be on Sept. 22 in Long Beach on Long Island, and groom Silverstein paid all the costs - for the venue, the DJ, the band, and even the videographer and photographer.

The suit also asks Platt-Lee to pay half of the rent for the 15 months spent living in Manhattan. The couple moved in together, then separated. They eventually got back together and were to get married--- and then broke up again. He says his payment was gifts in "contemplation of their impending marriage," and apparently, if there's no marriage, he wants the presents back.

Platt-Lee moved from California to New York to be near Silverstein, and she moved into his Upper East Side apartment in August 2009, according to Silverstein's claims. He paid the rent for six months, but Platt-Lee dumped him in February 2010. More than a year later, they "rekindled their relationship," and they were engaged in June 2011.

According to the lawsuit, in August 2011, Platt-Lee moved back with him and her name was added to the lease - but Silverstein again paid her share of the rent. Nine months later, she broke things off again.

The couple met when Pratt-Lee was working as a flight attendant and began dating in March 2008. Silverstein, a telecommunications exec, apparently impressed her enough that she moved from California to NYC to be with him.

The suit also claims that Pratt-Lee withdrew $54,367.87 from their joint account after they broke up, but only $35,097.97 of that was hers. She finally returned a $32,000 engagement ring this month, but the suit asks for $19,000 from their bank account, $28,000 in rent, and $13,500 of the $27,000 in nonrefundable deposits he paid.

A lawyer for Platt-Lee's attourney said she "generally denies" the allegations and plans to countersue, claiming Silverstein failed to return makeup and some of her other possessions. Platt-Lee currently works in marketing and is back in San Diego.
