Five Dead in Seattle Shooting: New Details Emerge

Five people were shot in Seattle at an apartment complex, and all have died following the shooting. The shooting occurred late on Sunday, April 21 in Federal Way, Wash., a suburb of Seattle,.

The current suspect of the shooting, Dennis Clark III, 28, was shot by police who were responding to a 911 call for help. At a press conference on Monday, Federal Way Police Chief Brian Wilson told reporters that Clark produced a weapon as officers approached and they opened fire on him. The suspect then fled to a nearby parking lot, where officers found him on the ground, and the suspect reached for a gun, so officers opened fire. Clark  died at the scene.

Earlier in the evening, Clark also shot and killed his girlfriend. He then went outside into the parking lot, where two men confronted him. Clark shot those men as well. They have been identified as Caesar Valdovinos, 24, who lived nearby but not in the apartment complex. He was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time and is a young father. Sylvia Valdovinos, Caesar's mother, said "I don't want to believe it's my son right there. I don't want to believe this is happening to us."

His shooting was probably witnessed by a 62-year-old man who has not been identified by name, but was called the building's unofficial neighborhood watch. He shouted to a neighbor to call 911 and went back inside, but the suspect chased him down, shooting through his door, then shooting him at point blank range.

Police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock told Seattle television station KOMO that officers responded to a 9:30 P.M. report that shots had been fired at the Pinewood Apartments in Federal Way, about 20 miles outside of Seattle.

"When we arrived, there was a lot of gunfire already being fired and multiple calls, 911 calls of gunfire," Schrock said.

A neighbor, Ronald Brown, told reporters, "I looked through the peek hole. I could see he was still coming up stairs. I didn't know if he was going to kick in some more doors. I was scared at that point. I didn't know what was going to happen," he said. Police arrived just then.  When Clark, the suspect, refused to obey their orders and shot at them, the officers shot and killed him.

Clark had a valid concealed weapons permit and no previous criminal history. However, he was involved in two domestic violence calls.
