Matt Lauer Wanted Crisis Experts To Help Deal With Ann Curry Leaving The 'Today' Show

Today Show host Matt Lauer wanted crisis experts to come in and help NBC deal with distasteful way NBC let Ann Curry go.

Reports are saying that NBC refused Lauer's crisis experts request, so the veteran NBC anchor is taking matters into his own hands.

The New York Post says a source close to Matt Lauer said, "Matt's wanted to bring in an outside p.r. agency." The source close to the morning show explained, "He lost faith and has wanted a crisis team in place. Since they haven't hired an outside agency, he's taking matters into his own hands."

Ever since the Today Show dismissed Ann Curry, the show has been taking a ratings hit and getting a lot of bad press. Long time viewers of the Today Show and other news organizations felt NBC did not handle Curry's departure from the show as tastefully as they could have.

Ann Curry's finale episode of the Today Show was cold and awkward. The long time co-host was given a brief good bye at the end of the broadcast. This pales in comparison to the 2 and a half hour good bye Meredith Viera got when she left the show.

Lauer recently joked about his negative press while attending an event for the UJA Federation of New York. The New York Post quotes him as saying, "These days, I only get asked to host dinners if polio is busy. Yup, I have a lower Q rating than polio right now."

Lauer goes on to say, " Who can forget when [Katie Couric] was co-host of the 'Today' show? She got a colonoscopy on TV . . . two weeks ago, I got one in the New York Times."
