Taiwan: The Next Major Market To K-pop World Domination?

In recent years K-Pop idol groups have been focusing more and more attention on promotions and concerts overseas and Taiwan seems to be a hot spot lately.

On April 24, M! Countdown held a special event in Taipei with many Korean groups like SHINee, INFINITE, SISTAR, and T-ARA performing alongside Taiwanese singers. U-KISS also debuted their sub-unit uBEAT at the show and T-ARA's sub-group T-ARA N4 revealed their new video teaser for the audience.

With attention shifting toward the island nation's fans, K-Pop groups seem to be eager to promote themselves and increase their presence in Taiwan.

CNBLUE made Taipei the first stop on their world tour earlier this month and performed for a crowd of 11,000 screaming fans and After School held their first fan meeting in the country a few weeks ago.

The Taiwanese music charts are now becoming a constant topic of conversation in the Korean media as K-Pop groups continually rank high and sell a large volume of albums throughout the country. Last month both CNBLUE and B.A.P dominated the charts and groups like Super Junior and JYJ are consistently popular among fans in Taiwan.

Even veteran singer BoA is jumping on the Taiwan bandwagon announcing earlier this month that she will perform a solo concert at the National Taiwan University Sports Center on May 18.

The response to K-Pop idol activities in Taiwan has been tremendous and fans are excited to see that the Korean stars are paying more attention to them and planning more events and concerts in the near future. As K-Pop continues to spread around the globe, it would seem that Taiwan is the next area of focus for total musical domination.
